Rooftop and steel lifts, Elko NV
Crane lifts for rooftop HVAC units, roof trusses and structural steel in Elko and Spring Creek. Send the unit weight and the roof height, and independent local operators quote you directly.
A quote-request service: we don't own cranes. Your request goes to independent operators who work Elko County.
What a rooftop or steel quote covers
These are lifts to height, usually in a built-up spot. HVAC contractors and steel erectors are the usual buyers. The operator works out which crane fits from the weight, the height and the room to set up.
- The crane and its operator, sized to the heaviest piece and the farthest reach.
- Set-up on the street, lot or alley near the building, on outriggers.
- Rigging and a signalperson if you ask. Steel and trusses often need both. See rigging and signalperson.
- Several lifts in one visit, such as a row of units or a run of trusses.
- Time on site. Ask about minimums and call-out charges.
Boom truck or crane for the roof
A boom truck can be enough for a lighter unit and a short reach. Heavier units, trusses and steel usually need a mobile crane. The operator checks the load chart against the weight and distance.
| What you are lifting | Likely machine | Ask about |
|---|---|---|
| Rooftop HVAC unit, lighter | Boom truck, if the weight and reach allow | Unit weight and distance to the curb |
| Rooftop HVAC unit, heavier or farther | Mobile crane or truck crane | Roof height and room to set up |
| Roof trusses | Mobile crane or truck crane | Sequence and the heaviest truss |
| Structural steel | Mobile crane, with riggers | Pick list, heaviest member and sequence |
When you need a crane on the roof
Commercial buildings in Elko and Spring Creek have rooftop units that need replacing, and new builds need steel and trusses set. Both are crane jobs.
- Replacing a rooftop HVAC unit or setting a new one on its curb.
- Setting several units in one visit.
- Roof trusses and framing on new builds.
- Structural steel and precast components.
- Tanks, vents and other equipment going on a roof.
What to have ready
This is what the operator asks first. Rough numbers are fine; "not sure" is a fine answer and the operator will ask follow-up questions or come and look.
- Unit weight
- From the spec sheet or nameplate. For several units, give the heaviest and the number.
- Curb or set point
- Where the unit goes, and whether the curb is ready.
- Roof height
- Height of the roof, parapet or structure the load has to clear.
- Set-up spot
- Street, lot or alley: how much room for the crane and its outriggers.
- Steel and trusses
- A pick list, the heaviest member and the order of the picks.
- Power lines
- Overhead lines near the set-up or the swing path.
- Site rules
- NCCCO card, lift plan or certificate of insurance, if the site or building owner asks.
- Timing
- Date and hours, and whether the building can be closed off during the lift.
Rules on the job
Operator certification
For construction work, OSHA's crane rule (29 CFR 1926.1427) requires a certified or licensed operator, and NCCCO is the most common route. It is specific to crane type and capacity, so ask for the card that matches the crane quoted for your steel or rooftop lift.
Streets, lots and alleys
Rooftop lifts in town often set up in public or shared space. Ask the building owner and the operator what that means for the job, including blocking a lane or an alley, and who has to agree to it.
Power lines
Tell the operator about overhead lines near the set-up or the swing path; the form asks. The operator decides whether the lift can go ahead and what that takes.
Rooftop and steel lift questions
What do I need to know before asking for a rooftop unit lift?
The unit's weight (from the spec sheet or nameplate), the roof height, where the unit goes on the roof, and where the crane could park. The operator uses these to choose the crane.
Will a boom truck lift my rooftop unit?
Sometimes. A boom truck can handle a lighter unit at a short reach. Heavier units or longer distances need a bigger crane. The operator checks the load chart against your numbers.
Can one visit cover several units?
Often, and it can save on call-out and set-up time. Say how many units there are, the heaviest one, and the order you want them set, so the operator can plan.
What does a steel or truss lift need?
A pick list, the heaviest member, the sequence of picks and a plan for who rigs and guides each lift. Steel and trusses usually need riggers and a signalperson as well as the crane.
Do I need an NCCCO operator for a construction lift?
OSHA's rule (29 CFR 1926.1427) requires a certified or licensed operator for construction cranes. NCCCO is the most common route. It is specific to crane type and capacity, so ask for the card.
How much does a rooftop crane lift cost in Elko?
We haven't confirmed an Elko price range and don't publish one. The price depends on the crane, hours on site, travel, rigging and site conditions, and each operator quotes from your details.
